You’re reading Modern Motherhood Musings, a weekly newsletter written from one mom to another. Each week I share an honest reflection on motherhood, and a collection of things bringing me joy. I’m passionate about community, and I hope that by sharing our stories, we all feel a little less alone.
👋🏼 Happy Friday! I’m sharing my meal plan and grocery list for this upcoming week with y’all. Scroll to the very bottom of this email for the attachment.
I know how many hours it takes to think through what to cook, browse recipes, and compile a grocery list. Hopefully this will help make your life a bit easier!
📝 This week’s musing…
As I sit here and write this, we're monitoring an active tornado watch in the Houston area, and thousands of homes are without power.
A little bit ago, the skies turned black, the lights flickered, and the wind started howling. Will looked at me wide-eyed and panicked, seeking confirmation that it would all be "okay."
Even though Brandon and I were worried, we’d never let these little ones know. I jumped into mom mode and worked to make a moment that felt really scary to them into something less scary. We built a floor pallet in the living room, played with flashlights, and marveled at the heroic firefighters on TV.
It's bizarre to become the adult once you have kids, even though you still feel like the kid yourself, and it's even more nerve-wracking to be brave and strong for them, even when you're scared too.
As moms, we possess an incredible superpower. We can be worried to death, but remain a picture of peace for our kids. We put on a smile and continue moving one foot in front of the other. Many times, it's the only option we have.
To all you mamas who are the anchor for your kids when the world feels off-balance, you're strong. To all you moms who are worried about how you'll afford the bills this month or fighting health concerns, you're rockstars.
To all you moms who strive tirelessly to give your kids a little magic among the job loss or cancer diagnosis, and the moms having to be the ray of sunshine shielding your kiddos from the doom and gloom surrounding them, you're heroes.
To all you moms who put on a brave face when all you want to do is cry, I see your strength, and you're doing an incredible job.
What a privilege and a blessing it is to bear the weight of this responsibility. I hope I’m always a refuge for my kids, a haven they can run to, with open arms that make them feel safe.
✨ Friday favorites…
🎶 The Super Simple Songs channel on Youtube and Spotify has been my saving grace lately if I need to get something done while keeping the kids entertained. Both of them love it, win-win.
📚 Emily Henry’s latest novel Funny Story was so good. I loved Daphne and Miles, and found myself rooting for them like I do all her main characters. It was lighthearted while still touching on some deep topics.
👗 I decided to give StitchFix another try, and I’m so glad I did! They sent me a romper and skort that i’ll be wearing all summer. I think they have more variety than they did in the past. Use this link for $25 off.

Don’t underestimate the power of a good distraction. A silly song or dance party can diffuse a tantrum in seconds.
