Thanks for sharing this. I love the realism you bring and how you touch on embracing multiple emotions existing at once. We can be annoyed and grieving. We can be tired and count blessings. All of that is valid and worth of space in our hearts.

Thank you Allison, I'm so glad it resonated. What emotions are you feeling most these days? I'd love to hear.

My husband and I just bought property in Colorado - I am balancing immense gratitude with feeling overwhelmed at all the things we are discovering that need attention. :)

Wow! I can see how that would bring lots of emotions. Congratulations on the new property! :)

Thank you for writing something that feels so true to the texture of daily life. What resonated most was your metaphor of waves. There’s something deeply comforting in the idea that emotions are not problems to solve but tides to survive.

One insight your piece sparked: motherhood seems to heighten emotional permeability. We don’t just feel our own emotions — we absorb the emotional climate of the world more intensely because we’re imagining it through our children’s futures. Perhaps part of surviving motherhood is learning not only to ride waves, but to decide which waves we allow into our inner shoreline.

I love that. "decide which waves we allow into our inner shoreline." What a beautiful perspective. You're so right. We can feel it all, but manage which ones we let affect us deeply.

Loved this. Really needed to see this today too. "I’m learning that surviving motherhood isn’t about controlling the emotions. It’s about letting them move through us — like waves — and trusting we’ll still be standing when they pass."

I’m so glad it resonated! I’ve been feeling so much lately, all the emotions so deeply.
