YES to all of this! It’s like we’re trained to relate through our children, which is beautiful but also somewhat limiting. I’ll catch up with friends and we’ll spend 30 minutes on potty training struggles and school pickup logistics, but never mention that I’ve been feeling anxious about my dad’s health or that I miss going on date nights with my husband because we’re so swamped with all things kid related. Thank you for creating space to say the real stuff.

Yes! That’s exactly how it is when I get together with other friends who are moms too. I’m grabbing dinner tomorrow night with 2 girlfriends, and I’m determined to have deeper conversation as just women. I hope you get to do the same soon too! Thanks for being here, Courtney!

Great post. No matter what age you are or your children are - I think as Moms we will always try to shield our kids from how we’re really doing to not be a burden. I miss my Mom too - more every day it seems. I try to carry her light forward as she would want me to and make her proud. That’s my fuel. Carry on Moms - you got this !!!

Such a good reminder to check on the moms too! I feel like I’m good about checking on moms with newborns, but all women need to be checked on. I’ll be texting some ladies shortly!

This week, it’s super hot in SC still but I’m making broccoli cheddar soup and chili anyway! They go hand in hand with the season. Baseball fall ball season is back in full swing, but I’m looking forward to ordering pizza and relaxing with my husband tonight. There’s a great place with the cheesiest most delicious Chicago style pizza. We’re obsessed! We will get back to Chicago at some point to try the real deal, but for now we love this!

I’m so glad you’ll be texting some friends :) I hope it brightens your day and theirs. That’s funny you said that because pizza was exactly what sounded good tonight too, I’m going to suggest that to my husband! Y’all enjoy! What part of SC are you in?

My parents used to live on Daniel Island, years ago. I love that area! I went to UNCC and was in Charlotte for a long time. Can’t wait to read your post!

There is so much truth to this. As moms, kids become our lives and therefore all we talk about. We forget about ourselves and just start to refer to our friends as 'other moms' instead of thinking of them as women who might need checking up on.

Thanks for writing this and making me think harder about the questions I ask ♥️
